The new look of Holland

Our commitment to serving your transportation needs remains as strong as ever, and now we have a new logo. This month, you will begin to see the changes.

Since "USF" is no longer part of our name, we removed it from our logo. However, we kept our distinctive blue and orange ribbons. For obvious economic reasons, we will be phasing in the new look over a period of time, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of the change.

Another change is the addition of the endorsement line: "A YRC Worldwide Company." The YRC Worldwide name is associated with industry leadership in heavyweight shipping and supply chain logistics, and we're proud to be counted in its family of companies.

For 80 years, our name has been associated with high-quality service, on-time performance, and claim-free shipping. And what better way to celebrate our anniversary, and the success we have enjoyed as a result of our dedicated employees and our loyal customers, than to get back to our heritage name. So from now on, you can just call us "Holland."

Roadway receives NASSTRAC carrier of the year

For the 19th consecutive year, Roadway, now YRC, was recognized for service excellence. NASSTRAC Carrier of the Year is an annual program co-sponsored by NASSTRAC and Logistics Management. The program recognizes transportation providers on a quantitative scale in five key areas: customer service, operational excellence, pricing, business relationship, leadership, and technology.

Highway anti-privatization bills introduced in U.S. Senate

U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) introduced the "Transportation Access for All Americans Act" (S. 885) and the "Transportation Equity for All Americans Act" (S. 884). When a state or city leases a highway, it receives significant compensation. The legislation would eliminate federal subsidies that now go to privatized highways. The proposed legislation also changes the depreciation for highways, reducing the tax benefit. According to the American Trucking Associations, privatization is dismantling the nation's interstate highway network. The association believes the United States cannot maintain a national highway network if key segments are leased to the highest bidder and without clarity on long-term implications.

ATA sustainability agenda presented to Congress

Testifying on behalf of the American Trucking Association before the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, ATA First Vice Chairman Hodges asked Congress to: enact a national 65 mph speed limit and govern truck speeds at 65 mph or slower to reduce fuel consumption; increase funding for the Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay program; support national fuel economy standards for medium and heavy-duty trucks leading to lower emissions; invest in infrastructure improvements to fix the nation's most critical bottlenecks; fund research and development in new technologies that will improve average fuel consumption and generate greater fuel efficiency; and promote the use of more productive truck combinations resulting in fewer truck miles traveled.

Note: All Holland trucks are already governed at a 62-63 mph speed limit. YRC Worldwide is a SmartWay founding carrier.

Retail trade associations agree in principle to merge

The National Retail Federation (NRF) and the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) agreed in principle to merge and create a single trade association. Members of both organizations must agree to the merger. This is expected to take place by summer's end. While memberships of the organizations vary slightly, they both serve the same industry. Member benefits of the merger include focused educational offerings and operational services, as well as a single point of integration, and dialog with state retail associations and business groups.
