We pioneered next-day service in the region, and now deliver 95 percent of all shipments next day. What's more, most of those shipments arrive early in the morning, so you can quickly stock your shelves or get your materials into production.

With our on-time performance at 98.2 percent for the year, we not only surpass industry standards, we surpass our own exceptionally high standards.

We continue to deliver industry-leading quality handling with very few incidents or exceptions and a claim ratio that's less than half of one percent.

And we're dedicated to continuous improvement, finding new ways to move shipments faster through our system, while still delivering confidence with on-time, intact service.

laptopWe're also considered an industry leader in tracking technologies and Internet-based shipping services.

Customers frequently send us notes and letters, telling us how our New Penn employees went the extra mile to deliver customer service. We're pleased to receive these because that's what it's all about: service you can count on, day in, and day out.

hand-held computer to send tracking information

Our NP Connex onboard computers facilitate communications among our drivers, our dispatchers, and you. As a registered customer using our online tools, it's easy to check the status of your shipments.

Request a pickup, and the pickup entry page is updated when the driver is notified of your shipment, when the pickup is scheduled for pickup, when the driver is enroute and when the driver arrives at your dock.

After the pickup is complete, the driver scans the bar code on the bill of lading, and you can immediately begin tracking the shipment's status online.

From the time of pickup until the delivery is made, the status of your shipment is updated online on the Shipment Tracking page:
Pickup completed (after the driver scans the bar code label)
– At origin (when the shipment is at the origin service center)
In transit (while the shipment is between service centers)
– At destination (when the shipment arrives at a destination service center)
Out for delivery (when your shipment leaves the destination service center)
Enroute to be delivered (as the truck is being driven to the delivery address)
– Now being delivered (as the driver makes your delivery)
Delivered (when the driver updates the status from the cab of the delivery truck)

You can even request an Automatic Email Delivery Notification.

 green balance calculator

New tool clarifies environmental effect of transportation activities

Working in partnership with Sustainable Travel International (STI), YRC Worldwide introduced its new Green Balance Calculator, giving customers the capability to measure and voluntarily offset the carbon footprint of their shipments.

The Green Balance Calculator evaluates eight transportation activities that produce or influence carbon emissions: fuel, rail miles, air miles, electricity, hotel nights, employee commuting, rental car miles and employee-reimbursed miles.

YRCW is the only less-than-truckload transportation provider to partner with customers on improving environmental sustainability through the use of a carbon emissions calculator.

Using the Green Balance Calculator, a customer first completes the requested information fields.

STI evaluates the data and provides an estimate of the carbon footprint by transportation activity.

The estimate then leads the customer to a variety of certified carbon offset choices where they can make a tax-deductible contribution to STI. The charitable transaction to offset the emissions is between the customer and STI.

Texting

The U.S. Department of Transportation issued federal guidance banning texting by drivers of commercial vehicles, such as large trucks and buses, as a way to discourage distracted driving. The prohibition goes into effect immediately.

New Penn understands the dangers of such distractions. Our operating procedures prohibit the use of cell phones with or without hands-free technology while operating a company vehicle unless the driver first pulls off to a safe location or legally parks the vehicle.

The U.S. Commerce Department reported gross product expansion of 5.7 percent. "This month's report provides significant assurance that the manufacturing sector is in recovery," says Norbert J. Ore, chair of the ISM survey committee. "Both the new orders and production indexes are above 60 percent, indicating strong current and future performance for manufacturing."
